In order to build the new store at Ashton Gate we need to make our Winterstoke Road site an attractive place to live and work and, importantly, we wanted to submit a proposal that was both realistic and deliverable.
The architects have worked within parameters that are, in large part, set down by the site’s size (four hectares) and its surroundings, but we have also taken into consideration factors such as the capacity of the local road network. Our outline proposals included a mix of residential and business units, two-storey housing with generous gardens and a 'village green' or community space.
Following the feedback received during our consultation with the community, we made the following changes:
• Added measures to improve the flow of traffic from Ashton Drive to Winterstoke Road.
• Incorporating a two-storey apartment block in the centre of the site, which fronts onto a public square.
• Incorporating a larger ‘village green’ in the proposed layout.
We will hand over the site to an established developer to realise this regeneration vision.
Our Winterstoke Road store will remain open until the new store becomes operational. At that point, the store will close and we will hand over the site to an established developer.
