The store at Ashton Gate will be Sainsbury’s largest in the South West and would create up to 800 full and part-time jobs, including the 400 currently at the Winterstoke Road store.

A sustainable store

Our store will be built to a BREEAM Excellent rating – one of the highest standards that can be achieved in construction.

We have also introduced measures to make it easier for people to reach the store without using their car, such as new bus routes in addition to those already servicing the existing Sainsbury’s on Winterstoke Road and a range of undercover facilities for cyclists. Improved landscaping along Colliters Brook will help to create an attractive approach to the store for both cyclists and pedestrians.

Supporting local traders

Now that our plans have been approved, we are looking forward to working with local traders to pull together a package of measures that will best support businesses in North Street, East Street and the surrounding area. For example, improvements to the appearance of empty shops, funding towards Christmas lights or the introduction of loyalty card and voucher schemes to encourage people to shop in the area.
